Chief Compliance Officer

RONALD W. BUZZEO, R.Ph., is Chief Compliance Officer for Cegedim Inc.  Mr. Buzzeo, a regulatory and operational expert and Cegedim are advisors to manufacturers, distributors, chain and supermarket pharmacies, clinic pharmacies, provider pharmacies to long-term care facilities and practitioners, hospitals and HMOs, specializing in Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and FDA/PDMA regulations and state requirements.  Services include assistance in meeting DEA regulatory requirements, obtaining federal registrations and/or state licenses, development of statistically viable suspicious order monitoring programs (SOM), including customer due diligence, customer reviews and site verifications, quota and domestic and international scheduling issues, preparation of Standard Operating Procedures, audits and compliance reviews similar to those of the DEA, FDA and the individual states. Mr. Buzzeo provides expert testimony and Mr. Buzzeo and Cegedim conduct security evaluations, DEA and PDMA recordkeeping, DEA, FDA and State reporting, advice on prescription and inventory requirements, domestic and international compliance reviews, fraud prevention programs, drug abuse surveys and operational and business development. Other services include development and/or assistance with pharmacy  and hospital reviews, REMS, post marketing risk management programs, pharmaceutical returns/disposal, registration verification programs, import and export procedures, computer/electronic data processing reviews and systems validation, counterfeit and unauthorized product distribution and training seminars (on-site and web based). legislative reviews, drug sample distribution procedures and programs, outsource sample reconciliation and inventory programs, storage and handling of prescription drugs, returns and reduction systems, third party audits, monitoring and auditing of drug samples, sales personnel and fulfillment houses are services also available to the pharmaceutical and health care community.

Upon graduating from St. John's University, College of Pharmacy, Mr. Buzzeo practiced as a pharmacist prior to beginning his law enforcement and regulatory career as a Narcotic Investigator with the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Narcotic Control.  After several years, he entered federal service with the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, the predecessor agency to the Drug Enforcement Administration.  He implemented and directed domestic and worldwide programs associated with preventing the diversion of legally produced controlled substances and chemicals, formulating legislation and regulations to curtail this diversion, evaluating drugs of abuse for scheduling, establishing security and recordkeeping systems and audit and investigative procedures.  He represented DEA in meetings and conferences with officials from international, federal, state and local agencies, the pharmaceutical and chemical industry, and the health care community.

During his 22-year tenure with DEA, Mr. Buzzeo held various management positions prior to his appointment as Deputy Director of DEA's Office of Diversion Control in 1982, where he served until his retirement from federal service in 1990.  In 1991, Mr. Buzzeo established BuzzeoPDMA. In January 2005 BuzzeoPDMA was acquired by Dendrite International who was then acquired by Cegedim in May of 2007.

Mr. Buzzeo has had numerous TV, radio and press interviews and extensive public speaking before law enforcement agencies, major pharmaceutical companies, professional associations and civic groups.  He has had articles published in a number of professional publications, such as the NARC Officer, Drug Topics, U.S. Pharmacist, American Druggist, ASIS Security Management, other professional bulletins and co-authored the "Pharmacist's Controlled Substances Regulatory Guide and Compliance Manual" and the "CSA Compliance and Counseling Kit" for pharmacists.

He is a registered pharmacist in the states of Virginia and New York. He also served as President and Treasurer of the International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association (INEOA) whose membership consists of representatives from the law enforcement community, industry and medical professions.  He was a member of the National Advisory Committee to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for Pain Management and State Regulatory Policy and also served as the Chairman of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Substance Abuse Committee for six years.
